Woman holds National Front poster
The Irish community marched today in Liverpool as a way to remember Irish trade unionist James Larkin. There were 5 drumming and flute bands from the Irish community in the city and from further afield, including Scotland. They were joined by assorted trade unionists and anti-fascists.
The marchers were flanked by dozens of police, as they made their way through the city from close to the universities to the final gathering point at the Pier Head.
Police said the event had largely passed off peacefully, although there was a small number of people from far-right groups including the National Front, the North West Infidels and the Combined Ex Forces, who were shouting anti-Irish slogans and chants along the route.
